JOB DESCRIPTION – Continental Europe Controller
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the Continental Europe Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in developing and managing an effective and efficient reporting and controlling process across Europe. Overseeing the monthly financial reporting process to W.R. Berkley Corporation (WRBC) and performing the financial budgeting and monitoring process.
The position reports to the Continental Europe CFO and provides leadership, direction and advice to the Finance function with respect to the reporting and controlling process across Continental Europe including supporting the CFO in the Company’s annual budgeting process, operating plan variance analysis and monthly KPI reporting. This function acts as the analytical engine of the company to provide insight and support “optimal” business decision making.
Act as a key contact and advisor to finance personnel across Continental Europe.
Corporate and Financial reporting
Ensure timely and accurate monthly and quarterly financial reporting to the parent company.
Maintain effective communication and dialogue between the local branch finance accounting teams and the regional office.
Support due process, governance and communication between relevant finance, actuarial and data teams to ensure consistency of reporting and existence of key controls and reconciliations.
Oversee the Schedule P reporting process to the parent company.
Financial Planning and Analysis
Support the CFO in the annual business planning process.
Deliver the regular financial MI to track progress against plan and support the CFO in effective communication to the management.
Act as the key contact for the local finance teams to obtain the relevant input relating to the cash forecast process, Balance Sheet review and cost controlling.
Support the CFO in establishing and maintaining effective and robust governance procedure.
Working with all branches and affiliate companies to ensure the delivery of timely and accurate data.
Ensure tightly controlled practices for the settlement of invoices, payments and other such disbursements.
Cash flow and banking positions are appropriately managed.
Key point of contact for regional and local branch management teams with respect to financial matters across the region.
Regular input to analysis and reporting of risks and controls relevant to the business across the region.
Support CFO in any group level projects, system and process changes etc. as required.
Knowledge, skills and experience
Qualified accountant with at least 5-10 years of relevant experience in insurance accounting.
Knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS and how these relate to insurance accounting.
Knoweledge of Solvency II framework.
Working experience in financial planning & analysis.
Knowledge and familiarity with accounting and reporting systems in order to help design, specify and manage such systems and controls over them.
Strong inter-personal skills with the ability to communicate, convince and influence others.
Ability to analyze, discuss and communicate technical and sometimes complex material.
